The legendary Feng Shui Money Frog can be seen on the counter in many Chinese shops. The feng shui money frog will be decorated with coins around or inside its' mouth. This actually three-legged toad guarding its' treasure is used in Feng Shui as one of the many Chinese symbols for prosperity and luck all over the world.
Chan Chu is the name of this legendary frog, and again is actually a toad, not a Feng Shui money frog.
The Legendary Frog Chan Chu
According to Chinese folklore, the legendary frog Chan Chu is the companion of Liu Hai. Like any toad, Chan Chu hides in the cool darkness of wells, and would be fished out from there by Liu Hai with a string of gold coins.
Small statues of this legendary frog Chan Chu are frequently prescribed in Feng Shui.
2 legends of the legendary frog
Liu Hai was a Taoist alchemist in the Imperial government of 10th century China. Legend says Liu Hai became a magician with a three-legged toad: Chan Chu. This three legged toad could carry Liu Hai anywhere he wished. Yet Liu Hai feng shui statues show the three legged toad sitting on Liu Hai's shoulder or on his back (see picture). Since the reluctant animal sometimes would hide in the nearest well, Liu fished it out using a line strung with gold coins.
A second Chinese folklore legend says that the so called feng shui money frog lived in a deep pool with poisonous vapours causing diseases and death. Liu Hai is said to have fished out the money toad with a string with golden coins and destroyed Chan Chu. The moral of this feng shui version is that to much fixation on money can lead to sickness and death. As always: health AND prosperity are the 2 main virtues in Feng Shui.

Why has the money frog or money toad only 3 legs? According to Chinese Feng shui, the 3 legs of the money frog symbolise the trinity of :
- heaven
- earth and
- humanity fortune

Together with the turtle, the money frog is my favorite Feng shui symbol. It benefits wealth, a long life, luck and safety. A lot of time you can put a coin in the mouth of these 2 feng shui symbols: a coin in the mouth gives additional emphasis to prosperity.
Of course, if you put the frog on a lot of money coins, it will enhance your wealth even more.
How does Feng Shui work?
Some of Feng Shui is based on symbols: surround yourself with certain symbols that you know the meaning of, and your life should be directed in the sense of those symbols. In other words: if you surround yourself with money frogs, you will constantly be reminded that money is important for you.
Now you don't just sit and wait... These feng shui symbols are merely enhancers of money. It is still you who has to go out and get the money! Yet, if you let the symbols reminding you that money is important, not sleep, eat, drink, cinema, beautiful cars, hot women... then you are on the way to wealth, money and prosperity!
When your mind is on something else, symbolize it again with your feng shui money frog. Remove the coin from the toad's mouth at times when you are nor actively seeking more income (most logically when you are sleeping).

Feng shui money frog...or better said: Feng shui 3 legged toad.
Feng shui is an old chinese art, science and believe to organise your life in an organised world. Feng shui comes with a lot of synmoles in order to memorize the feng shui knowledge better. One of the symbols is the 3 legged toad, wrongly called money frogs.
Money Frogs are said to draw wealth to your home or office. This mythical creature is said to appear every full moon near homes that will receive good news of increased wealth or monetary gain.
They are called Chan Chu in Chinese but are more commonly known as the Money Frog.
In ancient China, these mythical frogs are believed to be the bearer of good fortune, which is why you see them bringing a string of coins with them. The three-legged money frog holds a Chinese Coin in its mouth and sits on a protective bagua or a pile of coins. It is usually placed near cash registers or in a wealth corner (the furthest back left corner of a room or building). Also, placing him inside your front door facing inwards symbolizes money coming in to your home or business.
